Benjamin Taylor Bird was born on October 1, 1812 in Bland, Virginia, United States, son of Luke Bird (1784–1843) and Sarah Morgan (1787–1857).
Benjamin (22) married Irene Marina Oxley (20) (born on October 27, 1814 in Bedford, Virginia; daughter of John H. Oxley and Rebecca (Miles) Oxley) on November 19, 1834 in Franklin, Virginia.[1]

He lived in Wythe, Virginia, United States for about 20 years[2][3] and Plymouth Magisterial District, Mercer, West Virginia, United States in 1870.[4]
He died on 8 November 1879, in Mercer, West Virginia, United States, at the age of 67, and was buried in Oxley Family Cemetery, Athens, Mercer, West Virginia, United States.[5]
