Minerva Elizabeth Bird was born on August 1, 1854 in Wythe, Virginia, United States, daughter of Benjamin Taylor Bird (1812–1879) and Irene Marina Oxley (1814–1874).[1]

In 1860, Minerva lived in Elizabeth City, Wythe, Virginia, United States with her parent and siblings,[2] and Plymouth Magisterial District, Mercer, West Virginia, United States in 1870.[3]

She married William Columbus Cooper on 26 February 1876, in Mercer, West Virginia, United States.[4]

They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 5 daughters:
