Biography

THOMAS SMITH ARMISTEAD, son of Rev Robert Augustine Armistead & Martha Anne Savage, was born in Hampton,Virginia, Dec 04,1839, 21 years before the American Civil War (Martin Van Buren's 3rd year as 8th U.S.President). He married Lucy Ann Grant, April 14,1868. He died, April 14,1884, 19 years after the Civil War (Chester Arthur's 3rd year as 21st President). His wife, Lucy, died 3 months later and they are buried together in Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond,Va. Thomas & Lucy, married 16 years, both died young and their five children were adopted and raised by his brother, Robert Armistead.
