He married Mary Adele Talbott, October 10,1883 in Richmond, Virginia. Westwood died, age 35, in Chicago, Illinois, 25 years after the Civil War on January 02,1890 (Benjamin Harrison's 1st year as 23rd President) and was buried in Richmond's Hollywood Cemetery
