Biography

Joseph was born about 1879 in or near Siluva, Lithuania, part of the Russian Empire at the time. He was the son of Isaac Abramson and Minnie Pearlberg. He had 2 known sisters, Henne and Chaje, and one brother, Harry (Chaim), born before his mother died about 1887.

His father Isaac married Fannie Hoffenberg in or near Kovno, Russia (now Kaunus Lithuania). Fannie and Isaac had 2 children Gertrude and Benjamin, born in Russia before the Isaac left for the US with son Joseph in 1892.

Issac (Eiche) and Joseph (shown as Jafne) Abramsohn left Amsterdam on the ship Rotterdam,[1] [2] and arrived in New York, then settled in Baltimore, Maryland.

Isaac was a pants tailor in both Russia and Maryland[3] and both Joseph and Harry would take up this occupation in Baltimore.

Three years later, in 1895, wife Fannie came to join Isaac, on the ship Stuttgart, accompanied by 3 step children (Henne, Chaje and Chaim (Harry) and her 2 children, Berd (Benjamin) and Slare (Gertrude). Gertrude, the youngest was only a baby. [4]

Joseph and Harry appear to have made a life for themselves in Baltimore separate from their father and step-mother. Joseph married Sarah Baddocl and had five children in Baltimore.[5] [6]

Brother Harry never married and lived in Baltimore with Joseph's family for many years.[7]

Joseph passed away in 1920, leaving Sarah with 5 children.[8] Brother Harry lived with the family for some time after Joseph's death.
