Jennie Grune (Chaje) Abramson was born about March 1877 in Šiluva, Raseiniai, Lithuania, the daughter of Isaac Abramson and Minnie Pearlberg. She had 3 known siblings, a sister Henne (born about 1875), and two brothers, Joseph Jafne (born 1879) and Harry Chaim (born 1886).
Her mother Minnie likely died about 1888 when Jennie was about 10 years old and her father Isaac married Fannie Feyga Hoffenberg about a year later. Isaac and Fanny had two children, Benjamin and Gertrude, before Isaac left for the US in 1892 with son Jafne (Joseph), where he settled in Baltimore.
In 1895, Fannie came to join Isaac in Baltimore on the Ship Stuttgart from Bremen, Germany, bringing with her three step-children (Henne, Chaje and Chaim) and 2 of her own young children, Ben (Berd) and Gertrude (Slare). Chaje was listed on the ship manifest as "held" but it appears she left the ship in Baltimore.[1][2]
Within a few years of arriving in the US, she adopted the name Jennie and
married Isaac Dagold in 1897.[3][4]
Jennie and Isaac had six children in Baltimore: Minnie (1898), George (1900), Sophie (1902), Fannie (1904), Leah (1908) and Louis (1909). Isaac worked as a tailor and the family moved around Baltimore, living on East Pratt, Ann St, and Wheeler Ave.[5][6][7][8][9]
Jennie died on February 6, 1938, in Baltimore, Maryland, at the age of 60, and was buried in Rosedale, Maryland. Her gravestone reads "Jennie Dagold, (Hebrew name) Grune, daughter of Yitschak Aysak.[10]
