Who are the parents and where was Jean Potier, Acadian, born?

Jean just showed up in Beaubassin in 1700, rather newly married to Anne Poirier, daughter of well established Acadians.  Possible parents are on the profile, but the only source is from a GEDCOM that Karen Theriot Reader mentions, but evidently didn't put much weight in it because she didn't add them to her record for Jean.  Stephen White doesn't have either parents or a birth location.

Where was he born?  The profile started out with Boissiere, Poitevine, Poitou, France, others have mentioned La Rochelle, and yet another possibility could be in Acadie itself, though doubtful on that since he isn't mentioned in any earlier censuses.

Can anyone shed some light on this mystery?

There is a publication mentioned that I don't have access to:

An Acadian becomes a Nova Scotian. By V. J. Pottier. In Collections Vol 29, pp. 22-42. Chronological Narrative with documentation. Paper presented 2/3/50. Eras: 1713-1867

I wish I had an answer.  He probably was not from La Rochelle, a major port for departing French.  Many of my ancestors have La Rochelle listed for this reason.  If his last name was not actually Pothier, it could be an indicator that he came from the central area of France and has taken a variation on that area's name.  He is likely not French royalty, either.  I don't think there is any info/research/family lore available. I know that some old, unsourced info gives him the name Marchquay (or variation) but no sources are given and no such name has been found in the suspected areas of France where clues direct researchers to look. Some speculation gives his origin as a French soldier, but again, no documentation has come to light. Wouldn't it be great if some of our fellow WikiTree members had some long-lost source to share?
