Very good question, Sharon. Typically, we use the location of the time period when your ancestor was alive.

Those areas were part of Congress Poland of the Russian Empire.

I know enough about the area, but am fully tied down with the Poland Project at the moment.

However, I believe categorization structure could reflect like I am doing for the Poland Project, using a present day village information as an index for anything in any point in history for that village.  This solves having to create historical region projects/categories.  The village category could have a description of the timeline within it.

I bring this up, because we need more volunteers to get involved and help organize these areas.  I would be happy to help advise anyone who is interested.  :)
