Are records kept with local synagogues or elsewhere in Poland?

I am researching my paternal great grandparents who emigrated to UK in late 1800’s and later went on to end their lives in South Africa. Is there any way I can contact the nearest synagogue where they spent their early lives for information and/or their parents and family? My 1 x GG was Hyman Proctor (Hebrew name Chaim Zelik b Fivish) born in Krosneiwice, Poland in 1868/69 and died 3 Nov 1932 in Boksburg. My 1 x GGM was Rachel Swartz (Hebrew name Moshe bat Leib) born unknown Poland in 1866 and died 6 May 1928 in Boksburg.

Contact jewish genealogy, they are trying to collect all the information of jewish people world wide and have many records from the countries in that location.  Many records exist in archives in the locations.

Am working on similar lines at the moment, found these sites useful:

https://beta.jri-poland.org/

Finding specific info is quite difficult as so much was destroyed

Thanks Mark for your input in response to my question. Not easy to obtain online records for relatives who lived in Poland pre-1900.
Thanks Lynn

I have tried jewishgen but no results for my relatives while in Poland discovered so far.
But not a lot was destroyed, the germans were meticulous record keepers and we have their records.  Sometimes the names of towns or areas have changed which things more challenging and sometimes the records just aren't online, one has to go to the archives, know the language and search.  Sometimes doing a general search for Poland genealogy records will connect you with sources.  There are also town books available held by the local authorities.   https://www.familytreemagazine.com/heritage/polish/polish-genealogy-websites/

Again thanks Lynn for putting me on the right path. David
