Records of bonds that owing? [Vermont, 1793] [closed]

Where would I look to find Marriage Bonds that didn't result in marriage?

In a 1793 Vermont petition for insolvency it said "... by large sums of money which your petitioner has been obliged to pay as bondsman..."

That may or may not be a marriage bond ..  but assuming it is a marriage bond - there would have been no marriage .. so I wouldn't find a record in Vital statistics ..

Where could I look to try to find out what the petitioner was a bondsman for .. and to whom?

I’d look in the court records of  Chittenden County, VT (where Burlington is).  There are probably abstracts of cases available in book form if the actual records aren’t on line.

Didn't find any records in the mid to late 1700s for him.  He left to Canada in 1793 and died there in 1797 .. so records for "William Ward" after that aren't him.

There are not many Burlington Court House records prior to the 1800s anyhow.. but its understandable as to why not. From this page:

In 1790, a courthouse was set up at Gideon King Senior's Tavern, where duties of the court were carried out before the beer flowed

Its a wonder any records survived at all ...
