How do I embed a link to a Google Book?

Hi all,

I found an Illinois History on Google Books, which I believe should be an acceptable source??

What is the proper way to reference it?  There is code provided to embed -- it looks like this:

<a href="https://books.google.com/books?id=z0o0AQAAMAAJ&dq=historical%20encyclopedia%20of%20illinois%20McDonough%20County&pg=PA1018&ci=102%2C70%2C797%2C1092&source=bookclip"><img src="https://books.google.com/books/content?id=z0o0AQAAMAAJ&pg=PA1018&img=1&zoom=3&hl=en&sig=ACfU3U2QHISHFkQZqL-YY9k6gEhHxUdv5Q&ci=102%2C70%2C797%2C1092&edge=0"/></a>

But just copying and pasting is not making a hyperlink. And anyway the hyperlink just points to the image on the page.

Should I just reference the book itself, like a physical book (which it is, just also digitized)?

TIA, d

if you look at the information about the book you can create a citation from that - use the Author first, then title of book and include page where you found the information - publishing date and so forth can be put after title and that should be good for your citation

when using google books I see this information on the left besides the book pages in the middle, my be different for your browser

I don't think that code will work. Like Navarro said create the citation first, then copy the book's url from the browser address and paste that after the citation. If you want to get fancy you could make it pretty like this:

Author. ''[http:// url from address bar

then put a space

Title of book]'', city, state: publisher, date, page.

Example:

Balch, Galusha B. ''[https://books.google.com/books?id=Z7YwAAAAMAAJ Genealogy of the Balch Families in America]'', Salem, Massachusetts: E. Putnam, 1897, pg. 15.

It will look like this:

Balch, Galusha B. Genealogy of the Balch Families in America, Salem, Massachusetts: E. Putnam, 1897, pg. 15.
