This article on MSN today is a MUST READ - we are headed for pain-free and stress-free lives!

in The Tree House by Gaile Connolly G2G Astronaut (1.2m points)
Love this! I think I have same gene. I thought child birth was a totally amazing experience, NOT painful at all. And the other things: burns, cuts, and such I simply do not feel. My over all is a life free of stress and is quite peaceful.
Truly amazing.  It would be so wonderful if they could develop something to help those that are in pain every day of their lives.
As someone who fits that description Janice, I heartily agree.

Pain sucks. Pain every waking minute goes beyond "sucks". Most current medications blunt the mind and how it processes pain stimulus rather than turning down or off that stimulus. I'm "lucky" in that opiate derived medications make me ill rather than high so I cannot take them and face the addiction problem they present. The flip side of that though is there are few medications that effectively reduce pain for me. Any advance in genetic treatments will be a blessing, though I do not expect any miraculous cure within my lifetime.
My brother has similar problems as you, John, except he was helped at first by the opiate based meds, until he had serious problems with their addictiveness.  I would love it if Sherrie could share her DNA with my brother!
My Gedmatch is T474191. happy to share!
And I am happy to share my au to help this effort. I think it could be significant for others.

Sherrie, perhaps you should contact Stephen Waxman, MD, PhD (https://medicine.yale.edu/neurology/people/stephen_waxman-2.profile) who was mentioned in the MSN article. He studies people who experience pain (or don't) like yourself. He and his associates would probably be better able to use your DNA data than we here on WikiTree.

Thanks John, I sent an email and gave him my kit number.
And he replied yesterday. Phone is set for tomorrow. I'm looking forward to helping here.

Very cool!smiley

AND!!! I'm thrilled to say I am accepted into the study, my sister is also willing to participate. No expense for me, but it is not a paid research effort. I will never be identified, and will not know my results, that's a-ok!

Yes, I was reading about her yesterday. You can guarantee the drug companies will charge well for any resulting products.
