Have you enabled sharing of your WikiTree Pedigree on GEDmatch?

One thing that makes researching DNA connections is the ability to review and study pedigrees and trees for the people you share DNA with - It's a big part of this type of research.

Here on WikiTree we can make sure our WikiTree information appears on GEDmatch by doing a couple of things:

  1. Add your GEDMatch ID to your DNA test information (for more check out this help page).

Enable sharing your WikiTree Pedigree with Gedmatch.

  1. Login to GEDmatch
  2. On your GEDmatch homepage go to your DNA kit and click the pencil to the right of your kit information.
  3. Once you are on the Kit Profile Management page, scroll to the bottom where "WikiTree link is NOT publicly available".
  4. Click on the "Enable even if alias" If you have a kit alias on GEDmatch (meaning you entered an alias when asked to for the kit). Click "Enable if no alias".
Connecting your WikiTree Pedigree also helps to improve WikiTree and GEDmatch's Search Engine Optimization - rankings in search engines like Google and Bing and...
Thanks!

Just checked, my WikiTree sharing was already enabled.
Thanks Mags. I just checked and mine is also already enabled but was good to check to make sure.
Thanks for this post, Mags.

I think this post deserves to be highlighted in an upcoming WikiTree weekly newsletter. Members who linked their WikiTree profiles to Gedmatch prior to the last few months might not realize that we need to go back into Gedmatch and revise the privacy settings to make our WikiTree content visible there.

And highlighting this post in the weekly newsletter could make more folks aware of the great features of the interconnection between WikiTree and Gedmatch.
Thanks for the tip.  I have been sitting here thinking I had GEDMatch to WikiTree set up correctly.  Just changed WikiTree to Public even if alias.  Going to interesting what happens now.

Yes have an administrator post a question "Is your GEDMatch to WikiTree set to Public?"  Explain what it means and see what comments you get.

I agree totally Ellen, this is so important that if every wikitree.com member would do this, so many people could possibly find their connection with each other, and break down the dead-end walls that are so frustrating.

Can you imagine, if every member of gedmatch.com, was also a wikitree.com member?

Thanks

I strongly encourage WikiTree members in GEDmatch to contact their closest matches in GEDmatch and invite them to join WikiTree.

I wish more people would either upload gedcoms or connect their wikitree profiles in gedmatch.  They can provide valuable clues to the breakdown of many a brick wall.

It makes a huge difference!
I have enough trouble even getting family to take any of the DNA tests

To dream if only everyone took a DNA test what great things might be discovered!

Yes my wikitree tree is linked on Gedmatch.

Can I add wikitree to my mothers and my sisters Gedmatch profiles?

If yes, how do I do that?

Their gedmatch profiles all use my email address.

Ok I had a look at their profiles and they dont seem to have access to the wikitree. why is that?

Thanks.

Hey Robynne,

Your mother and sister must be their own profile managers on WikiTree if they are living. They can update their DNA test information with their GEDmatch ID's. Then with WikiTree Display enabled their pedigrees will be visible on GEDmatch.
Thanks Mags.
I'm having the same problem, my Mom is a WT member, but her Gedmatch is linked to my email. There's not an option for WT on her Gedmatch kit. The kit does show as uploaded on her WT page, so the number is there. Suggestions?
I think I see the problem, her profile is set to private. At least her Gedmatch # shows so people can use that as needed.

Thanks.  I had it set for public and police, but overlooked the Wikitree part.  Corrected now.

Mine was enabled, but now I can't figure out how to see it. It looks like GedMatch has changed their site and no longer make other people's trees available for viewing.
by Dennis Wheeler G2G6 Pilot (577k points)

Hey, Dennis. It's slightly wacky because the standard one-to-many DNA comparison (V2-A)--in other words the free one that doesn't show as being in beta mode--has no fields to display either a WikiTree link or a GEDmatch-uploaded GEDCOM. I think that might throw some people.

It's only if you use the free one that's currently labeled "One-to-Many Beta - give it a try" that you'll see any Wiki or GED links. They do show on both the one-to-many options in the Tier 1 tools, however.

thanks for that... I thought I looked at the beta link before and couldn't figure out how to get it to display a list at all... must have missed the now obvious fill-in your own kit number field
