In that time period he would almost certainly be an aristocrat as it is very rare for anyone of a lesser status to be mentioned in the primary or original sources.

However I should point out that there are no reliable sources on his profile nor on any of his ancestors or his descendants for 3 or 4 generations, and there is a strong possibility that he never existed and has been 'invented' to provide a more noble genealogy for the Carpenter family.

Ieper was one of a cluster of powerful cities which had real citizen power, so there is a chance of records of non aristocrats? But anyway like you say, to have any useful discussion we would need to work out what evidence there is for him and his family even existing.

I cannot say if Maurice Le Carpentier was a real person or not, but he is part of an internet genealogy that attempts to attach the mythical Thomas Pasmere Carpenter to the Native American Chief Powhatan, through his equally mythical wife Pride Cornstalk Shawnee See Carpenter-8227 and Cornstalk-32. Someone has spun a great yarn about the Carpenter family who ran a shipping line in the late 1500s into the 1600s. I would guess that many people in this tree are real but their connections are suspect.
