Taking a break from working on a profile to request this: I need someone with Fold3 access to do a look-up for me.
Imagine my surprise to find on FamilySearch a Union record for a Maclin Kerr (both names variously spelled in records: Macklin, McLin, Mclean... Carr). If this is the same Maclin Kerr as my ancestor (and I believe he is), the surprise for me is that I have, until now, only had Confederate ancestors, about six or seven. This would be my first Union one. What is also surprising is the in the 1850 Slave Schedule for Blount County, Tennessee, he is listed as owning two slaves. In the 1860 census, he apparantly had extensive holdings which might indicate even more.
The FamilySearch info on the service of Maclin, if very brief, shows that Maclin served in the 5th Tennessee Mounted. Other Kerrs in the area were Confederate, so more of a surprise.
Maclin left Tennessee between 1864 and 1870 for Norh Carolina.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
