Category name change needed?

Category:English Pedigrees

As explained there, it currently contains profiles of people all from a specific Cheshire Visitation.

Should there not be a move, while this category is still small? I suggest making a sub-category for "English Visitations", and under that sub-category one for "Cheshire XXXX" and so on.

A single extra level would also do the job but I am thinking the approach could be used further in future.

These are really UK Project. If you want England project  to take it over, then I think you need to consult both and come up with a detailed, workable solution.

Then I'd be happy to help, although I'm not particularly interested in pre-1500.

I am not so aware of how the projects divide up work on something like this, and how much jurisdiction they have over category setting. From an outside point of view it is hard to see how Cheshire pedigrees would NOT be under England but would be under UK. I suppose others will also like to understand this better.
Well the Visitations as such weren't pre-1500 (in spite of the attempt to pass off Surtees 144 as a 1480-1500 Visitation).  Of course the lines do sometimes go way back.

And the heralds never covered Scotland and never did a Visitation of Ireland or a proper Visitation of Wales as such, Dwnn's collection being its own thing.

Right, we tend to be useful to link between the medieval families and early modern gentry. Before the English civil war the visitations are pretty hard to avoid using for better or worse.

...anyway my original point was that we have one small set of profiles from one specific visitation who are categorized immediately under pedigrees.

To me it seems there should be an effort to put in sub-categories before this gets out of control?

I agree that categories for visitations should be under England and then then by county and  possibly by visitation (  so Dorset would have 3 sub categories for 1565. 1623 and 1677.) They already are linked as resources from the county entry pagehttps://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Dorset_Genealogical_Resources (1677   not there. It's  not online  and is a comparatively rare and still in copyright. )

But whether creating empty categorues for each county would be useful is, to me,  questionable.  Would  many people  find a use for them .Some individuals  turn up in two or more counties.

I am also not so sure whether a Category for each visitation person is a useful idea to be honest, but in any case we should be aware that it has been done on a small scale already.
So, up to you, Andrew. The present set-up is historical. I don't know enough about visitations to do anything. I suggest you come up with a plan for improvement. But it needs to be complete before you start work. otherwise we just end up with a muddle.
I have done what I proposed.
That is great - you did what was needed to be done good work then - have not yet dived into my Brits but will at some point, nice to know it is being set up right
