System disallows this merge since Miles-5251 was created before Miles -6547..  However, Miles-6547 has relationships that are correct and Miles-5251 has none.  HELP.

I am Miles-6574.  What is the merge proposed?

Jack Miles
Oops.  I transposed the numbers from 47 to 74.  Sorry!

You need to merge into the lowest number unless there is a different LNAB, which is not the case here. The relationships and both biographies will be visible in the merged result.

That does not make sense to me, sorry.

then can Miles-5251 just be deleted?
No.  Lynda is right.  When you complete the merge, you choose which dates, places and relationships go in the resulting profile.  You also get to edit the biography to keep the correct information.  Nothing from either profile that you want to keep gets lost.

Hello Scott.

Please see here:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Merging#Using_the_merge_table

The WikiTree ID of the final profile will be "Miles-5251", but the final "new" Miles-5251 will have the data (Parents, DOB, text, etc.) you select/enter in the merge table.

'Merging' doesn't mean 'overwriting' or 'choosing one and deleting the other'.  It means something like 'squishing together', so all the information is available in one profile; then you choose which information you want to discard.

When you merge them in the correct direction - into the lowest number when spelling is identical, you will see the relationships come with it.

When completing the merge, parents and spouse will show up the merge page. Make sure that the dial buttons are checked off and they will go over in the merge. Children will automatically go with the merge.

So any relationships on Miles-6547 will go over to Miles-5251. Nothing will be lost.
