James Teague 1880 Census

All the help is always so helpful. In looking at that 1880 census it does appear to have similar names. In really looking at it, if James' death is correct then this certainly would not be the correct family. The census was taken June 4, 1880 and his death is listed as June 2, 1880. I have been scouring for an 1880 census on them but to no avail nothing. I'm wondering if the name was terribly misspelled and we just haven't located it yet.

Sincerely,

The census for 1880 is supposed to include all person living on June 1, 1880. That's why you will sometimes find people who you think shouldn't be there when the census was taken.

Later, some census dates were for people living on January 1st so it was even trickier.

Deb beat me to it.

If James had indeed died with a day or two, he would still have been included - and his family may have been so bereaved that the census taker may have been informed by a a relative or friend, or a neighbor.

There are death records from Pickens County, Georgia for the daughters of a James Teague that are interesting: Mary Lou Hales (your Louisa M?) and Rebecca Wheeler. (you have a Rebecca listed). Mary Lou's death certificate says her mother's name was Elizabeth Thompson and Rebecca's says her mother was Nancy Thompson.

Both women have birth years close to what you have listed from census records.
