Names omitted from Standardized list. How to inquire?

Names omitted from Standardized list. Is there a better way to ask this question? I have a long list of names that I suspect belong in discussions. Where to put? Thanks everyone for your help. I'm a newbie here, so much to learn!

I have a huge tree on Ancestry, but sadly, it's a mess - too many duplicates! Haven't worked much on it since Ancestry allowed merging. So much work! As soon as it's decent, I'll be happy to share. I'm anxious to see what everyone's done!

Thanks so much for reading. And thanks for your hospitality!

What do you mean by "Standardized list"?

Hi Shirley,

Are the names the one you listed in the other question? I'll check them in the DGFA next time I have access to it, but that could be a few weeks. In the mean time, Annette may stumble on to this and add them to the list before I get around to it.

Actually, Roland, I uploaded only some. Hence, the reason for my question today. As I'm trying to clean up my tree, I'd love to have some direction on how to standardize the following names. Apologies for the length. All of these names are in my tree and I was hoping they'd be listed on the list you provided. I'm very happy to wait for answers; I'll just leave them as-is until I hear otherwise. Thanks again! smiley

Hi Shirley

I reviewed your names in Stephen White's DGFA and most were not on the list; I would check with the Quebecois project group for advice on their standardized names.  Here is the list I found in Stephen White's DGFA, focused on those names in which he did a genealogy

The first bolded name is the preferred name he had on his list. I would use it if you think the ancestor was Acadian. If Quebecois, I would defer to the Quebecois standardization.

Hi Shirley, i am away from my Stephen White books until the middle of next week.  In the meantime, I suggest you:

a. Focus on the ones we do have listed:

http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Familles_acadiennes

b. Use the names on the DGFA Book corrections

http://www.umoncton.ca/umcm-ceaac/files/umcm-ceaac/wf/wf/pdf/cor-dict.pdf

c.  For the names not listed above, use the names on SW's 37 familles list:(there are a few names that don't match with above DGFA (Daigre is not used here but Daigle is)   http://www.umoncton.ca/umcm-ceaac/node/55

Re uploading gedcom, i found i had to customize my gedcom as there were so many duplicates with Wikitree.  My strategy was to:

A) check the common pioneer ancestor in one of my lines (e.g. Daniel LeBlanc), B) check how many descendents in my line were already on Wikitree, and

C) Create a gedcom that just included the descendents not on Wikitree. For each line, i only had to upload 3 to 5 generations. It was sometimes easier to manually insert them.

I have many of the pioneers listed on my profile page near the bottom, so this may be a starting place.

I look forward to your tree being linked to our Acadian tree!
