Reading, PA  September 1, 1860:

Messr's P.L Weimer & Brothers, Lebanon, PA-Gentlemen: In reply to your letter concerning the Cut-off Governor Valve of your Patent, on the engine of the Wyomissing Woolen Mills under my charge, I can say that in all my experience as engineer of 20 years, I have never met anything to equal it.  I run with a wide open throttle valve all day and find no perceptible variation of speed with steam varying from 40 to 80 lbs.  As regards the saving of fuel it is all and if anything more than stated by Mr. Fisher, (22 %) which with the addition has been attached make fully 32%.   I take pleasure in recommending it to steam engine proprietors as well as engineers, as for the first it saved fuel and for the latter labor.

Respectfully yours.
