Question

Who are the parents of Harriet (Howard) Dale? Howard-29673.  According to her baptism record she was born in 1814 in Bruisyard, Suffolk, UK to Robert Howard/Haward and Hannah [Scoggins?].  Robert Howard and Hannah Scoggins, Scoggins-720 were married in 1809 in Bruisyard, Suffolk.  However, Hannah (Scoggins) Howard, has been attributed to a different family.  The problem I have with the family that she has been attributed to is that she married in 1809 to Robert Howard, but their first child wasn't born until 1820, eleven years after the marriage which is unusual.  It would make more sense that she is the mother of Harriet (Howard) Dale, Howard-29673 b. 1814 Bruisyard.  I can't find another mother, Hannah (?) Howard for Harriet, Howard-29673 and/or a replacement for either  family.  I need help researching Hannah Scoggins, Scoggins-720, and/or a potential Hannah for the mother of Harriet (Howard) Dale, Howard-29673 b. 1814 Bruisyard.

Hi Anna, I’ve had a quick look at these profiles and agree with you that Harriet christened 1814 in Bruisyard is the daughter of Robert Howard and Hannah Scoggins. The 1841 census record on the profile does not give relationships, and it is more likely that the Harriet living with the family in 1841 is a granddaughter, and the daughter of one of their older children. Hannah would have been 50 when the younger Harriet was born.

Edited to add that the younger Harriet is likely the illegitimate daughter “Harriet Emma Howard” of the older Harriet, christened in Bruisyard on 28 Apr 1839.
