William was b ca Sep 1817 in Indiana Co, PA (per Civil War enlistment).  He m Nancy Norman in 1838 in Belmont Co, OH, raised 13 children, and he d 1891 in Belmont Co, OH.  He was a shoemaker.

Who were his parents/siblings?  Did they travel to Ohio with him?

William's middle initial is M; a son has the middle name McClellan, and a grandson has the middle name McClellan.  Could this be his mother's maiden name?

Although the WikiTree profile shows his death in Belmont Co., PA, I think you meant Belmont Co., OH.
Yikes.  Thanks for that.  I've made the correction.
I tried looking up William M. Cline in PA and in OH at familysearch.org but did not find the answers you were looking for. Maybe someone with other resources will be able to address the situation.

Sharon,

I think I can tell you that one of her mother's sisters was named Elizabeth (married surname Cambell).

I located a death record for a daughter of William Cline and Nancy Norman.

Her name was also Elizabeth.  Her death certificate is here: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33SQ-GPK4-91LL?i=3138&cc=1307272

Additional information on the certificate says her father was born in Pennsylvania, and her mother in Ohio.  She had no children.  From this information, I found her Findagrave memorial page, which cites a will of Elizabeth's uncle, Robert Campbell, who was married to Elizabeth, Nancy Norman's sister.

The Findagrave information is here:

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/28127934/elizabeth-cline

It also lists her (the daughter's) siblings.

One minor concern -- the headstone birth year doesn't match the date of birth on the other records (1844 vs 1845 on the headstone). But the record I found matches the information found posted at the site, so there is some corroboration.

I hope this is enough to get you going again.

That first sentence in my answer didn't make complete sense.  I should have said

I think I can tell you that William's wife's sister was named Elizabeth (married surname Cambell).
Thanks.  Yes, Elizabeth Norman is Nancy's sister and was married to Robert Campbell.  The Find a Grave memorial is mine.  I have a huge amount of info on William's family/descendants but NOTHING on parents/siblings, nor do descendant family histories reveal anything of the ancestors.

I used the death certificate info for the birth date; it's possible it could be 1845.  I have found no birth documentation one way or the other.
I don't know how I got so far off-track.  I guess I start with one objective in mind, and then let myself be led far afield.

I am guessing if neither you nor Frank Gill were able to find anything, it is going to be quite a challenge!

I do think your McClellan clue is probably going to fit in somewhere....
