I have indication of what is possibly his wife and son found in the North America family histories 1500-2000.

Name: Joseph McCollough
Gender: Male
Age: 57
Birth Date: 1750
Birth Place: New Jersey
First Marriage Date: 1776
Death Date: 1807
Death Place: Scott County, KY
Spouse: Sarah Brown
Child: David McColloug

It seems he was in the Revoluntionary War.
The only mention of his parents that I can find at the moment is that they were from Sussex.

Thanks, That is what I wanted to confirm.  That makes it increasingly unlikely that he is an ancestor.  My confirmed ancestor one generation closer James B Brown was born in North Carolina,  Quite a major detour between New Jersey and Kentucky.  But until I get confirmation one way or the other, I'll have to wait.  Thanks for the reply.  Much obliged.
You are most welcome Brian, and Thank you for best answer :)
I have other sources (that need verification) that he is a son of Capt. Benjamin McCullough of Warren County.  (New Jersey isn't as big as even one of the counties in my home state).  The problem I have is his probable son (James Brown McCullough), who I know is a direct ancestor was born in North Carolina.  Although where he was born was just over the border from Virginia, which is on the path to Kentucky where Joseph died.  Also, to muddy the waters even more, James B's birthdate is one year after Joseph's marriage date of 1777.
