Where did you get your info? We have a 4x great uncle John Kenny who came to Australia from Kilkenny in the 1850s, then to N Z to fight in the Maori wars. Got his leg shot off apparently. His sister was Mary Kenny, my 4x great grandmother who was a potato orphan who arrived Sydney 1849 then assisted her brother John out. I have a photo of his son John. Do you have dates?

Hi anonymous,

If John was born in Killkenny then the best palce to search for his records is Roots Ireland at http://www.rootsireland.ie/

Also the Irish Roots project here on WikiTree has some good links to sources for research and records.

Have you looked at the Tithe Applotment records for Kilkenny? Do you know what church they attended? All churches were allowed to keep records of baptisms, marriages and funerals starting in 1829 for Catholics and the 1600s for Protestants.
