How do I cope with this?

Went to Hursley to see the monument to Richard Cromwell. It is in a very dark part of the church so that it was impossible to read. The photo is better than the reality but not much help. I will post it shortly. We bought the booklet about the church which lists all the names and dates on the memorial. Dorthy's mother is given as Ann Kingswell, which is in agreement with ODNB (We have her as grandmother). It gives the dod of her father as 25 April 1660 with no suggestion that he died other than in England. Lots of PMs involved in this but little by way of sources. I believe I should trust the now deceased church warden who compiled the booklet. Where do I start with this?

It's often possible to enhance a digital image to make it easier to see the contents. If you share your photo, another member might be able to improve it for you.

There's also  a transcript of the memorial here

The History Civil and Ecclesiastical, & Suruey of the Antiquities ..., Volume 1  John Milner 1809.

Obviously parents need changing. I would have thought that Richard's profile at least should be ppp and probably hers as well. Maybe tag the post euroaristo (not sure what other project covers it, he was  certainly 'gentry') and get some project leader input and help.

edit: also found this book with a 'transcript' of the burial register for Hursley

'The right worshipfull Richard Maijor, esq. Lord of this manor of Marden, deceased 25th April 1660, & was buried ye last day of ye same month'

Memoirs of the Protectorate-house of Cromwell  Vol1, 1787,  p 477

google books again

edit, have written some notes in comments on profiles of Major-667 ,Major-449 and Major-448 (Major-669 seems to be a grafted in generation and dates seem askew!)

Both Richard(d 1660)  and his father John who died in 1629 were MPs (John left a will which is on ancestry . .(subscription needed)

I guess move Dorothy up a generation.

Next question is whether Richard II the immigrant should be deparented.  His American career is here

Richard Maijor (d 1660) appears to have 2 daughters, Dorothy and Ann They were coheirs suggesting no sons living at his death.

Interesting book.

So Dorothy and Anne move up a generation, and the other sibs all belong to the immigrant.

The dates on the profiles might have been squeezed to get the extra generation in.

Thanks Helen and RJ for your input. I've invited the interested parties to join the conversation and hope to hear from them soon. The monument had a life of its own so I'll write that up and there's some interesting stuff at British History online. The church wasn't photographed as it was covered in scaffolding and isn't the same building anyway.

A date for the marriage of Richard Major and Anne Kingswell has been found. 1625. This fits for the daughters, Dorothy and Anne. But excludes a son Richard born 1610 or so (would need to have been to fit his American career). I've heard nothing from the PMs so is there any reason not to detach Richard from these parents? A brother for the senior Richard has also turned up but HOP says there was only one son.
