Daniel Andreyev Neumann Help Locating Additional Family

Question

I am truly hoping someone can assist me in further research, as I have hit a proverbial brick wall with my Great Grandfather Daniel Andreyev(Andreas) Neuman(n)

He was born in August of 1875, in Poland, the church where his birth confirmation took place was in Jasieniec, and I have a copy of this written in Polish which I am currently having translated to look for either other relatives or neighbours in the area.

His Mother was Anna Elizabeth(Elzbieta Polish) Kitzmann (nee Kinast) and his Father was Andreas(Andreyev Polish) Neuman(n).

I have a copy of an old Passport written in what appears to be Ukranian or Russian, that was issued in 1907 to my Great-Grandfather that states him as a Married Wheat farmer. This is where I run into difficulty.

He married my Great Grandmother Maria Metner (nee Henkel) in March of 1917, in Manitoba Canada. So obviously at some point after his passport was issued and before this marriage he travelled to North America, but I can find no record of this?

Nor can I find any mention in any of my current documentation of whom this former wife is, or if there were any children, and if there was....what happened to them?

I could potentially have an entire 1/2 branch of family that I know nothing of?

Does anyone have any advice on where I can begin looking? I have poured over everything that is available to me on Library and Archives Canada, on Family Search, and on the Ancestry websites, in addition have exhausted the Database on SGGEE.

There are some travel documents that are close for single men (birthdates and Initials )but as I cannot track those movements to Canada do not wish to hazard a "guess" , as we all know...guessing at this can be quite dangerous ;)

If it's not on FamilySearch or LDS microfilms the only other source (short of the archives in St. Petersburg and Odessa) that comes to mind is The Society for German Genealogy in eastern Europe.

 

Addendum: from 1793 until 1917 Wolodymyr-Wolynskyj/Володимир-Волинський was in the Russian Empire/Россійская Имперія and not in Poland.

The Society for German Genealogy in Eastern Europe (SGGEE) is where I have found the majority of birth records, marriage records etc for most of my family on both sides of my Great Grandmothers, but this wife I have mentioned have found nothing concrete as of yet. As I said I can "Guess" at whom she might be but guessing is dangerous ;)

Also Is it possible for him to have come over to North America and no records survived of that?

I don't know what kind of information they might have because as far as I can tell they are mostly dealing with immigrants in Germany, but they should have a better idea how to proceed with further research.

Derzeit sind 2,5 Millionen Personen gespeichert und es wird erwartet, dass die Zahl auf 4 bis 5 Millionen bis 2019 steigen wird. Ausgewertet wurden Geburtsregister, Steuerlisten, Volkszählungen, Listen von Adligen, stimmberechtigten Personen, Milütärlisten, Adressbücher und weitere Dokumente, die unter den Zaren, den Habsburgern und in der polnischen bzw. sowjetischen Zeit entstanden. Noch ist die Webseite nur auf kyrillisch zu lesen, eine Version in lateinischer Schrift soll in den kommenden Monaten erscheinen. Thank you for your response. I am aware that technically it was under Russian rule but for organizational purposes of my tree if the town where my relatives have been born etc falls within the modern borders I am classifying it as Poland, Ukraine, Germany, Russia etc. I find for the intents and purposes of not being completely inundated with entries, as this area has changed hands so many times over so many years it just simplifies it somewhat. (That and because most of my information has been garnered from the SGGEE databases I am trying to keep with their place naming guidelines.)

Sure makes finding records tough sometimes with how many times these areas have changed hands though *sigh*
