Are we doing a good job communicating in the Acadians Project?

Hi all, especially Acadians Project members!

Jackie and I have been discussing how to improve communications withing the project. A couple of things we were wondering about are:

- How many project members follow G2G? If you are seeing this and are a project member, can you answer or comment?

- We are considering reviving the dormant Google Group for the project. How many would be interested in having discussions there?

Thanks!

Roland and Jackie

Since I joined the Acadian project, the only communications I had are a few emails to you and your answers.  . I think that a group should have a communication channel else G2G.

Thanks for you input Guy. The fact that we didn't get many answers here supports using a different communication method.

I do follow G2G but, as Guy says, I haven't communicated with many members of the Acadian group. There just doesn't seem to be anything to initate such discussions other than discussing files with managers.

I've never been part of a Google Group for a project, but that does seem to be one option. I've noticed some other groups also communicate via the G2G. Which would work best, I don't know. I have a bit more free time than others as I am recently retired so can be flexible.

I'm jealous of your free time Denise! I'm still quite busy in life so I don't get to keep up with G2G as much as I should.

Glad you are flexible and willing to give Google Groups a try. Of course, you can also use G2G as well!

I have tried to communicate with members of the Acadian Project through G2G but I don't get a clear sense of who is actually reading the thread. Thanks to all of you who do respond--you are solid gold.

Yeah, G2G seems hit or miss when it comes to reaching people. I sometimes miss Acadia tagged posts!

It's good for questions where not everyone has to see it.

I follow the G2G thread and I would follow the Google group if it was up and running.  I am at a loss as to know what needs to be communicated.  On occasion, when I have a question or comment, I contact the profile manager. For bigger concerns, Acadian tags, documentation, etc., G2G works and provides some interesting discussion.  What else is there?

You're right, for the most part, we don't need extra communication. What prompted this discussion between Jackie and I is with the upcoming Source-a-Thon, we are discouraged from recruiting for a team on G2G, so we are left with no other practical way to announce the team and recruit participants.

So, I don't see the google group being used a lot, just the occasional message here and there.

I follow G2G but I'm sure I miss things. I've used Google groups in past and my only problem (seen with other groups) that my email fills up with chit chat or multiple thank you or other uninformative comments on posts. I'm really struggling with excessive emails lately from various interests (not wikitree necessarily)

Just got the G2G message now in my email.

I don't know what's going on with the Project. I keep looking around to see if there's any activity and I don't see anything. But to be honest, even if I've been a Wiki member since february, I'm still new and very green on how all this works.

I think a Google group would be pretty useful. Personally, I'm on there everyday because of 2 other WikiTree groups that are already there... and it's busy! ... just my 2 cents

I read the G2G threads and have found them helpful for information and asking questions.  I would be open to using another channel if you want to.  One suggestion:  if some of the answers from G2G could be incorporated into the project page, that would be helpful for ongoing reference.  I always go there first, but in reality (for me) the most useful info has come from G2G.  It isn't always easy to refind something in G2G, though.

I just learned this yesterday. It's a help for finding things in G2G. Look at the bottom of this page and find these buttons. I haven't tried it yet but I will. To add a question to your favorites, click on the plus sign at the top of its page.

Yes I have some of these links on my own resources sheet.   Favorites would help with information I've already found if I didn't put it on my sheet.   But when I am looking for new information, I try Help, I try the project page, I try G2G and often can't find anything.  That's why I think if you could incorporate some of the good G2G answers in your project page, it might make finding info easier having it all together.   Such as the discussion we had about who should have the Acadians tag. . .  I know the answer to that one, but have tried multiple times before to find out.
Good point about adding info to the project page! Thanks for the input.
