brick wall in Kent

This week have been taking a look at a brick wall and again got no further with it. Wonder if anyone would be kind enough to take a look.

Henry Sherwin (Sherwin-289) appears in 1851 as a widower, occupation police court usher, born ca 1811 in Derbyshire. He is living at 9 Market St., St. Mary Greenwich, with his two sons, Henry, b. ca 1845 Woolwich, and Fredrick, born ca 1847 Greenwich.

Looking back to 1841, he is living Market Street Upper Woolwich Greenwich, apparently single, born out of county. No other Sherwins with him.

So he must have married between 1841 and circa 1845 and lost his wife some time between about 1847 and 1851. But I can't find the marriage or the birth records for either boy. Nor can I find what happens to either Henry, senior or junior, after 1851.

Interestingly, there was a Minerva Ann Sherwin christened in Saint Mary Magdalene, Woolwich in 1843 who dies in 1845. Her parents were Henry Sherwin and Isabella Ann. But I can't find an Isabella Sherwin dying in the Kent area between 1847 and 1851.

I think I have tracked down his parents, but would love to know who his wife was and what becomes of him.

Yes, I concur, I haven't found any other suitable parents. These would fit the bill.
Just had a look at google maps and St Mary Magdalene (now a garden) is .3 miles from Market St., so there's a good chance that Minerva and Isabella belong with Henry.

Doubt if Henry married Wm Briggs, Wm Knowles or Charles Unwin. So, that narrows it down somewhat.
Thanks, Frank

I never really looked at these before as I was looking for an Isabella. But now that I do, I find a Henry and Charlotte in the 1851 census in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, so that seems to be a bust :(

Not sure about Charlotte Poole.

They married Aug 12 1844,Which looks fine. His marriage record says his

father was John Sherwin. His Christening record says father was James.

England is always a challenge.

Yes, and they seem to be a couple in 1851 in Chesterfield. Very strange there seem to be no other marriages suitable for my Henry.

For the Sherwin side, I lean to John and Sarah Hanbury m 1782 in Alvaston with son James ch. 1783.  Greatorex side is a bit trickier, maybe Thomas and Ann Wain m. 1776 in Wirksworth (lots of Greatorex/Greatrakes there).

But what really stumps me is: who was Henry's wife, why can't I find a wedding or a death for her, (or for Henry and his son who disappear after 1851, for that matter), and what happened to the births of the children (other than Minerva). How can so much be missing? Can it be a case of mangled names?

I ordered a certificate for a Frederick George Sherer b 1848, but that wasn't it. :(

Thanks, Ron! This helps a lot, as it confirms that it's the right Henry and that Isabella Ann was likely the mother of the boys also.

Frederick has his place of birth as Greenwich (1851), [can't find in 1861,] Blackheath (1871), Woolwich (1881), Kent (1891), and Woolwich (1901) which are all reasonably consistent.
forgot to ask, where did you find an image of the baptism? I have both findmypast and Ancestry and neither gives me an image.
Beautiful! Thank you for this, have not seen it before. I wonder why it doesn't come up on my account (it just says "no image, text-only collection")

Great to have this. Also gives them still on Market Street. Did a virtual walk down it on google maps.
