Brick Wall, parents of Sarah Hicks, 1780 married at Cudham, Kent, 1800 [closed]

Please help break through a brick wall, I have tried all of the usual suspects.

There is a spurious entry on Ancestry based on a mis transcription of LNAB from the marriage lines, copy in Sarah's profile, that I have based a search on, with no sensible results.

It occurs to me that I may have misread the register entry, it could be Wicks, not Hicks.

I realise you're already aware of this possibility and didn't want to prejudice other researchers but I think you're wrong to reject the surname Hooke.

The marriage record does appear to have a dot over her surname in the middle of the entry but I think this is just an inkspot. The entry at the top has no dot despite the groom's name having the i's dotted neatly.

I found an entry on findmypast (no image available) where the bride's name has been transcribed "Sar Nocke" and I can see how Hooke could be read as Nocke.

First name(s)    Sar
Last name    Nocke

The year is also incorrect with your image on the profile showing quite clearly it was 1800.

At first I thought the best fit was Sarah Hooker baptised in St.John's, South Croydon in spring 1778 but she died, aged 6, in 1784. The remaining strong candidate is Sarah Hooker from Limpsfield which is only about five miles from Cudham.

I now think that you are right about Hicks, Michael is obviously no penman, there are several ink splatters below his signature.

Review of the Curates hand, notably the words Banns, October and spinster suggest that it is probably not Hooker, but may be Hooks.

I'll edit Sarah's profile in the light of this, and search for possible parents.  I have put all of the info found to date, and a discussion of the alternatives in a Research Note, which is as far as i am able to take this.
