Trying to confirm details of Adams-23468 parents

Question

I have a Grace Adams as my 8x Great Grandmother. I know she married Edmund Davy 1744.

On her marriage record she is noted as Mrs Grace Adams. I'm trying to work out who she is, sounds like she is a Widow. Their marriage is in Madron, Cornwall. 23 Apr 1744

England Marriages, 1538–1973

BUT

I can't find a marriage for a couple with his surname Adams and her first name Grace.

Any ideas

Hi Elayine. Have you tried Cornwall OPC, for example this search which gives several possibilities? The more recent ones are not near Madron however.

I'm not sure if this link will work but it has the marriage of "Mr Edmond Davy & Mrs Grace Adams both of Penzance by licence dated 20th Aril 1744" and the marriage taking place on 23 April 1744.

There are other examples on that page or the following page where just the groom or the groom and the bride are referred to as Mr or Mrs and I think these are just honorifics, indicating that the couple are the local gentry or at least wealthy. Nothing to do with our more modern use of Mrs as indicating a married woman.  The fact that they were married by licence is also a sign that they were well-off.

**I notice the handwriting in all the records of the volume from FamilySearch is the same, which probably means that these are copies or transcriptions of the original parish records.  The originals may be lost.
