New member introducing myself

Hi all I am new here and just starting to learn how to do genealogy work. I know that I am not perfect and can use any help that is out there. I love learning about my ancestors and making them "real" to me. I have loved learning their stories, and trying to figure out the roadblocks that are out there. I have so many that I am working on. I will say that I am one of the stories that you hear about when taking your DNA. I found a half brother that I didn't know was out there. It has been whirlwind, and life changing event, but also a great addition to my family.

I am currently working on my Father's Paternal side the DAVEY side from Burwell England and have hit many roadblocks. I a hoping to find answers to the unknown and am excited to learn all that I can about doing genealogy work. Thanks all to welcoming me here! Stacey

Welcome!

If there is a specific area where you are having the most trouble, don't hesitate to ask here in G2G.  Brickwalls can be quite frustrating, but never give up!  I got an answer yesterday to a problem I was having some months ago regards a Smith ancestor. (Who could imagine a problem with a Smith, in England, right?! cheeky )

Yes I am trying to add my tree, not sure if there is an easy way to do this or just to manually add it. (that is what I have been doing) The main brick wall I have is for ancestor name Robert Davey. His mother is Sarah Faben and his father is listed as Henry Davey. The problem is that Robert was born in 1789 in Burwell, Cambridgeshire, England and Henry died in Swaffham Prior, Cambridgeshire, England in 1774. My aunt has ordered a CD from the (I can't remember where exactly but it has the parish list for Burwell of baptism, marriages, banns, and deaths) so we have the index of what I have listed, as long as it is indexed correctly. Also in the index it says that Robert Davy was born to Sarah Davey as bastard son. I hope this makes sense, I am trying to figure out who the father is of Robert. Once I get my tree uploaded it might make more sense? I appreciate any help I can get it has been driving me crazy. Thanks
So, even if the mother is correct, the father cannot be.  (Kind of like a cousin of mine who registered the birth of a child years after her husband had died.  A second registration was also made for that child, using her last name at birth, instead of her married name.)

Plug away at it.  Eventually something will pop and you'll know.  It may be that there is a generation missing.
Melanie I have searched for a birth record for him with her birth name as well. I know I will eventually find something, it is frustrating at times. Then I get side tracked sometimes too haha. Thanks for your comment and encouragement it is always welcomed and needed. Isn't it kind of funny that they name the dead husband as the father when it is clearly not him! Although in fairness it didn't say he was the father on the baptism, but in family search it did and that is comical to me!

Look through the new member pages you should have received when you joined. There is lots of helpful information there. If your research is in a specific geographical area then reach out to a project covering that area as there may be members with experience in that area.

Is your research just in England?

Hilary,

Right now I am focusing on one part of my family and yes the part that I am looking into is in England. They eventually did come to Canada, but that was 4 generations later. I am going to take a look at the new member pages, there is so much to learn, but I am excited. Hopefully I can find the right place to go. I appreciate all the positive feedback that has been said so far. This is going to be a great site I can tell!
