Do you have Hamburg ancestries?

From March 28 to April 7, the Genealogical Society of Hamburg is opening the Hamburg Local Family Book. So far there are entries on about half a million people. The main period covered is 1600-1875. Before that, only a few sources have been preserved and from 1874/76 onwards, the civil status data was recorded by the registry offices and is available through them.

My maternal grandmother Emma (1881-1956) and brother Charles were born there under surname "Lucht" and immigrate into the US before 1900.  Hope to pursue their family history.

Thanks for the information, that helps a lot if you don't know whether people moved to Hamburg. Then you will be able to start further research in the relevant church registers and not have to search through church register after church register in the Hamburg State Archives.

Thanks for highlighting, sounds really interesting. I have a few Hamburg deaths in the 1920s which are likely not in scope. But I'd be interested in last name based searches - maybe I get a few lucky finds...

I don't know the area at all, but found out recently that an ancestor was born in Bremen.  I'd thought they were Dutch.
