Hi Wikitreers,

I’d like collaboration in connecting Diedrich Holste as I have a vintage post card of his son William from 1937 and am researching the family group.

I’m baffled why I can’t find a grave or memorial yet.

It appears his daughter Julia Holste was a Bronx high school teacher in the 1950 census

The sisters I’d like to find out more if they married or where they were buried. The brother Frederick is also another mystery…

Any collaboration is appreciated

Thank you

Note: interesting that one of the sisters Louise isn’t in the 1910 census?

The New York, New York, U.S. Extracted Death Index, 1962-1968, at ancestry.com has a Dorothea Holste, who was born ca. 1884, died on December 29, 1925, in The Bronx.

Here is a report of her death:

It's the same lady because her probate pleadings are at New York, U.S. Wills and Probate Records, 1659-1999 at ancestry.com and list William G. Holste as her administrator.

P.S. It looks like you found Sophie's death.

Hi Roger,

I kind of had a sense it was a sad story and this confirms it. I will try and update their profiles. I’m wondering if any sisters or the brothers even married?

Thank you

Edit: I think this just leaves Julia who died after the 1950 census looks like she is single and working as a high school teacher in the Bronx per census. I’m thinking none married which is interesting
I wonder which brother John was who is mentioned in her death article. Maybe a nickname or middle name used
It looked to me like none of the daughters were married though Frederick seemed to be married to a woman named Eva.

I scratched my head on John, too.
Thank you

It’s a great start I’ve added and researched what I could to the sisters and parents it does seem at least the one brother did marry in life but none of them have a memorial on FindAGrave as of yet but maybe others who want to will contribute the family group is very interesting a teacher a dressmaker and lots of tragedy for this migrant family from Germany it seems…such as how did the father die apparently young himself.
