Advice before editing this pre-1700 Cane profile?

I have information to contribute to the profile of Richard Cane. This is what I can add:

  • Birthplace county is Sussex, not East Sussex (which did not exist until 1974)

These are the sources I am using:

  • My own knowledge of English counties, and Wikitree's drop-down list of places

Should I contact one of the pre-1700 projects or know about any style guidelines before proceeding? Or in this case and other very obvious errors of birthplace is it OK to correct them without consultation? Thank you!

I think that's something you can just go ahead and change.

While you're working on it, you might look at the dates. As it stands now, he married Mildred in 1580, but they had 3 children 20 years before that. Quite likely there were two different Richard Canes.
