Hi everyone,
I have been researching my own family for several years now, but I began to wonder if there was some other way that my research efforts may be helpful to others tracing their families – and then I came across WikiTree!
My personal interests lie in exploring:
- My maternal grandmother’s line - AGER, BURMBY, APPLETON, GOODY/GOODEY (primarily around Essex, England)
- My maternal grandfather’s line - RAINE (primarily around Durham, England)
- My wife’s paternal grandfather’s line - WHITFIELD, BLACKETT (primarily around Durham, England and Northumberland, England)
I am also interested in exploring surnames associated with families whose roots lie in the village of Tiptree, Essex, England where I grew up. My own tree has roots in the area which can be traced back 200 years on several branches and many other familiar local surnames appear in my tree.
Tiptree is renowned for its long history of making jams and other preserves. Their jams and marmalades can be found in miniature glass jars with silver lids on breakfast tables at top hotels worldwide. The firm was granted ‘Royal Warrant’ status in 1911 under King George V and subsequently under Queen Elizabeth II.
Once I am more familiar with all that WikiTree has to offer, I am keen to find ways to help more broadly with building a single family tree for everyone. If anyone has any information related to my interests above, let me know. Likewise, if you have any questions, let me know and I’ll see if I can be of assistance.
