Cormier marriages in the Memramcook church register

Question

A total of 264 Cormier were married in Memramcook. As of 13 Dec 2023, I have identified or created profiles for 259 of them (5 to be completed). Those five are :

Cormier, Rosalie 03/09/1861 Sylvain Gotreau

Cormier, Oside 09/09/1856 Joseph Richard

Cormier, Marie 15/05/1860 Eustache Gotreau

Cormier, L'ament 13/09/1868 Ozide Govin

Cormier, Frédérick 27/11/1860 Modeste Leblanc

Help linking them to existing profiles would be appreciated

Hi Renaud, I have noticed you doing lots of work with the the Memramcook parish registers! It is appreciated.

Here is what I found:

• Joseph Richard & Osite Cormier: 
  • There is an existing profile here: Cormier-5025. The attached parents of Osithe look correct, her brother Denis was a witness on their marriage record and the 1901 census matches her date of birth from her baptism record. The marriage record is cited in the husband's profile.
• Eustache Gotreau and Marie Cormier:
  • Link to civil marriage record (indicates they are both from Dorchester). Dominic Cormier is a witness.
  • Link to 1901 census. Marie's date of birth is given as 15 Jan 1835, Eustache's as 10 Apr 1837.
  • Good candidate for Marie: Cormier-6185 (date of birth 16 Jan 1835 in Memramcook, has a brother named Dominique)
  • Possible candidate for Eustache: "Estash Gotro" age 11 in the 1851 census in Dorchester. I don't see any other Eustache Gotreau's in the census that would be old enough to marry in 1860. I couldn't find a baptism record for this child in the Acadia - Families database at genealogiequebec.com. This census household is a bit confusing, but I think this child is a child of Gertrude Girouard-2465. You may notice that her husband Laurent has a daughter from his previous marriage named Justine, and a Justine Gautreau was a witness in the marriage record.

I will take a look at the others tomorrow if I have time. I would also recommend you tag your post with "acadia" to get the attention of the Acadians project members

Frédérick Cormier & Modeste Leblanc:

• See Cormier-693. I added some sources and attached Modeste to her parents. Even though Modeste's parents are not named in the marriage record, her date of birth from her baptism record works well with her age in her death record and is similar to the 1901 census birth date.

L'ament Cormier & Ozide Govin:

• See Cormier-961. Amand was previously married to Judith DesRoches per the marriage record. I created profiles for Judith and for Osithe. Osithe might be the same person as Gauvin-783, but there isn't really enough evidence yet to confirm.

Sylvain Gotreau (should be Boudreau) and Rosalie Cormier:

• See Cormier-3636. I created a profile for her husband Sylvain. I used their dates of birth in the 1901 census to find their matching baptism records.

I am making a database where I associate Wikitree profile numbers to the corresponding entries  in the Memramcook church register index. I started with the Cormier surname. Recently worked on the Brun and Breau surnames. At the moment, I am looking at the Belliveau surname.

The ultimate aim is to make sure that every Acadian descendant listed in the Memramcook church register has a Wikitree profile.

There is an abundance of Cormier ancestry information on Wikitree. Several come to mind immediately. Gisele Cormier, and Marcel Cormier have been a great help to me and many others. I'll try to help with whatever I have. It was only a few years ago that my wife, Marion E. Cormier Abbott knew very little about her relatives and ancestors.
