Elizabeth Sill - merge in question

I proposed a merge of two profiles for Elizabeth Sill (Sill-354) and (Sill-354).  Both have the same birthdate and birth place.

The father of one is Henry Sill, the other is H.Sill.

I ask for help because I cannot access the records for England. Both profiles have sources I cannot verify.

I should not have proposed the merge based on my inability to research further. I always hope one PM at least will have a look.

Please, someone who can - look at this.

Even though the names and birthdates are the same, there are too many other discrepancies to consider merging these profiles. There are two children born in the same year, with two different husbands.
I still wonder if someone is able to check the sources. I was asking because of the discrepancies!
I agree with Patricia. Needs work to determine.

I think you’re right to question the merge.  These profiles seem to represent two very different women with the same maiden name.

Elizabeth Brooke was born in Burton, Westmorland according to her census returns, but census returns for “Betty” Granger say she was born in Lancaster, so I suspect she may have the wrong baptism and parents attached.

Her profile, which you linked to, is drowning in incomprehensible sources and really needs a gedcom expert with a UK Ancestry account to clean it up and uncover what’s there. I’m reluctant to add anything as that may make clean-up harder.

There is a baptism for Betty Sill, daughter of Edward and Margaret, in Lancaster in 1801, which I think is the person whose profile you’ve linked to. She named her first daughter Margaret and one of her sons was Edward.

"England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975", database, FamilySearch(https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:J3JS-5H3 : 5 February 2023), Betty Sill, 1801.

So I would reject this merge, and I think we can detach the parents from Elizabeth Granger.  The two fathers, Henry Sill and H Sill, would then need merging, as you suggested.

ETA: not sure how I ended up with a larger typeface. I wasn’t intending to shout blush

I've had a better look at the "parents" Henry Sill and Elizabeth Towers. It's clear these are the parents of the well-to-do Elizabeth (Sill) Brooke, although Henry's date and place of death are wrong.

I will take responsibility for sorting out the relationships, date of death, and proposing a merge of the two profiles for Henry Sill.

I've rejected the merge as per this discussion, and run AGC on the profile to make the Gedcom readable.

You should now be able to compare the facts as required.

Thank you. It’s good to see the wood for the trees.
