A Canadian tidbit - just noticed Jacques Villeneuve https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Villeneuve-853 and Matthew Perry https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Perry-5880  are related (distant) , they both share https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Coupal-84

by S Stevenson G2G6 Pilot (252k points)
That's pretty cool!  Thanks for sharing :)

Justin Trudeau and Matthew Perry both descend from https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Trudeau-130

That's interesting because they went to grade school together, and Matthew and his friends would beat up Justin laugh

Matthew's mother worked for Justin's father while he was the PM.

Sounds like fun! I'm gonna try and drop in, to say hi, even if I'm busy.
by Brad Foley G2G6 Mach 7 (79.3k points)
Yeah Brad!  We'll see you there!

I'm sorry I can't make it.  Saturday's are too busy for me.  However, I put my brickwalls here:  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:New_Brunswick%2C_Brickwalls

You'll see a lot of Wards on the list because that's my thing.

Hi, Stu. I run into you often. Lints are my thing.

I would like to know how to find early Ontario Wills and how to find a person on and to understand the Canada, Ontario Tax Assessment Rolls, 1834-1899.

If I have time I'll join the Zoom meeting
by M Ross G2G6 Pilot (738k points)
Thanks for your question, M!  If we don't see you on the Zoom, I'll reach out afterward with some help.

Charles Boileau is my brick wall, it's a tough one to break.  His first wife is also a mystery item as to what her actual last name really was.  Funerals for either one of them still missing.

Don't do Zoom either Amy.  Doubt I would be available at that time in any case.

Thanks Danielle!  We will be in touch with whatever we find, after the Zoom Party

I have a question. In researching Canadian Notable Mary Walsh recently, I found she hails from Newfoundland.

What are some good repositories for Newfoundland records or newspapers?
by Judi Stutz G2G6 Pilot (334k points)
Excellent question Judi!  Thank you :)
The two major resources for eclectic Newfoundland records, including wills and newspapers are:

* http://ngb.chebucto.org/

* https://nlgenweb.dreamhosters.com/

There's also a bunch of other transcriptions here too, plus excerpts from journals and other documents. A lot of the censuses and vital records overlap with Familysearch, but there are some unique collections.

I’m not so sure if, rather than a brick wall, I’ve got a car crash. My great Aunt (Linn - Scotland) married her cousin (Lynn - Ireland) and moved to Canada where they had a family around 1912. All is fine until they die and their deaths are reported by their eldest daughter. Be it grief or distance that was the problem, despite having met both, she obviously hadn’t a clue who she was related to because the death certificates record her mother as having her husband’s father for a daddy and vice versa. The mothers are correct   The fathers surnames are correct. But the forenames have been switched. On historical official documents stored in the BC Archive Museum. How on earth am I supposed to stop this misinformation being promulgated further than it already has?

That's certainly an issue.  I'll be in touch, probably before the Zoom Party.
I have some issues like that with my Harbron family. The kids were orphaned quite young & with the exception of the youngest, seemed to be quite out of touch with their family roots (the youngest lived until 97 & had some extra time to research when his daughter retired from teaching). What I've done is looked for every family tree (on ancestry, findmypast, myheritage) that mentions the family & has misinformation. I sent them a quick note & links to my extensive research with birth records, etc and a link to a page on wikitree where I'd covered one of their family members. I then asked if they could provide any personal stories so that I could add to their page, and if they're interested, to become the page owner. I think that being interested in improving their arm of the tree helps a bit & slowly it's been making a big difference. Some still choose not to make changes, for whatever reason. Regardless, there are more now with the correct info & they seem to show up first for people starting new trees.

I'm not sure if that's an approach that would work for you, but I thought I'd mention it.
Hi Loralee, thanks.  I have that very same problem with my grandmother.  But I put that down to the way in which Ancestry encourages everyone to copy off each other instead of doing their own research.  And yes, since the examples are often wrong, I've begun the process of having her history standardised in line with the one she lived through (though I'd never even thought to look on My Heritage).

No this issue is not with distant relatives coming to the same wrong conclusion it's that the data they are basing their conclusion upon is false.

Stephen Jarvis [Jarvis-7189]

Two marriages.   Devon to Canada, Royalist Settler

I seem to have 18 children in total, wondering if correct.  Only my direct ancestor William added so far, who I do not think resided in Canada.

My main question is Stephen actually William's Father?  If anyone want's to check.  Otherwise have fun at the Canada Party!

Not sure I can make it, due mainly to time zones.

Thanks NG!  We'll see what we can find out for you :)

This sounds like fun! I will definitely tune in!

I do have a brick wall, my 2xGreat Grandfather, [[Matthews-16600|Thomas Matthews]]. I've found four possible scenarios, all four of which are supported by one or more of my DNA matches. Silly me, I actually want documentation to connect their Thomas of choice to my 2xGGf. This may be of interest to Brad Foley with his familiarity with Channel/Port aux Basques, NF.

Thanks Donna!  We'll see what we can do to help!

Hi!

I am working on the bio of an uncle [[Laronde-237|Gerald Grenville Joseph Laronde (1921-1942)]] who was killed overseas in WW2. Are there any recommended tags or additions to the bios of service members in the RCAF?

Thanks,

Terry
