Hi Elaine,

Looking forward to the party.

My questions / brick walls are how to find records and information from Eastern Europe and the former Russian Empire, where my ancestors came from.

I am 3rd generation English and I have learnt how to find English records going back to the 1700s but as soon as I have an profile that is an immigrant I don't know how to find them. I have profiles of all 8 great-grandparents and they all emigrated to England. I have most of their dates of birth, if not the year, but not all places of birth. Certainly no birth or marriage records.

My paternal grandmother's parents (Kunin-11 and Schuwachs-1) have been researched by a cousin but even that line only goes back as far as the names of my 2nd Great-Grandparents and the name of one 3rd Great-Grandfather.

Any pointers, tips or direct results would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

David

Fantastic, I’m checking their hometowns and we’ll see what we can turn up!

Btw, Wikitree Symposium has a presentation of interest on Nov 4 11am UTC  Researching Your Jewish Roots in Eastern Europe with Alina Khuda. Full symposium schedule here.

Thank you for the pointer on my great uncle Jack Brezinski. I agree that the 1939 Register record is incorrectly transcribed. I have been adding lots of information to Jack today. Next, I will look at your findings on Israel Frank in the 1921 Census.

Hi Elaine,

I can't join the Zoom as it will be 1am where I live but would appreciate any help with my brick wall.

My 2nd Greatgrandmother Goodman-6583 The only info I have comes from UK census (1881) and the site https://british-jewry.org.uk/leedsjewry/getperson.php?personID=I0001218&tree=1

Ive been hoping to find Birth/immigration records

She seems to have travelled with her sister but not her parents..

Thank you

Great, having a look. Do you think this is Etty’s hometown? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mariampol,_Greater_Poland_Voivodeship

Edit, this seems more likely to be the right town: Marijampolė

See Congress Poland 1914 map, Mariampol upper right

Thank you very much Elaine.

The 2nd link you gave Marijampolė  seems to be the right place as it states a lot of the Jewish community from there migrated to Leeds, UK. Very interesting history.
