Hello Kay,

Thank you for including the check on unsourced profiles. Some of the profiles do to my mind include a source, example Luxmoore-49 which has a 'Find-my-Past' link to a baptism and some do not, example Marsden-1775 where the source is 'Via Ancestry.com' which i assume is not an accepted source citation.

Is my understanding correct that these 'unsourced stickers' can only be placed in a profile either by a Wikitreer or by the WikiTree Browser Extension.

The Unsourced Research Note Box can only be removed manually (by a member) and should be done when a source is added.

There are several ways that the Research Note Box might be added, most typically by a member. Several software components may add the Research Note Box, including creating a profile and selecting the option for "a source will be added by". Various extensions may add it as well.

I'm just amazed at all your contributions, Kay.  And, that's just where I run across all your work in my little corner of WikiTree.  Thank you so much for all your work!

Hey Kay,

Thanks for the update. BioCheck just keeps getting better and better.

Question for you. Some nights I come home from work a bit fatigued and like to do some lighter work. Yanno, stuff that doesn't require as much brainpower as de-conflating family groups or providing rationale for merges.

One of those activities is digging up the really old and crusty unsourced profiles that nobody's touched in years. (A real gem is a lengthy GEDCOM with 7 views in 12 years.) Depending on the feeling of that night, I'll either source them myself or pop them into the categories for Sourcers (myself included) to have a go at later. Often once we get them sourced and cleaned up we realize there's a duplicate somewhere in the chain of relationships, so we end up merging and growing the interconnectivity of the tree.

I've tried locating some of these unsourced profiles with varying BioCheck search criteria and assorted report styles against random profile #s, each with varying degrees of success but none that consistently find a majority of unsourced profiles as results. I worry that repeated queries will find me more of them, but put undue load on the servers.

Do you have any tips or tricks, or even a recommendation for a different tool entirely, for finding these ones easier?

What you can search for is limited only by your imagination. Anything that you can find with a WikiTree+ text/search https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:WikiTree_Plus#Text_search_2 So you can use name, dates, locations. Or you can just search Ikeler or Weaver (there are a lot of those) or Shook. Also if you find profiles by Check profile, set the profile ID, set ancestors 0, set descendants 0, set connections 7 and click check all connections to check your CC7.

Beyond that you can use the WT+ search for gedfile=xxx to find profiles from a GEDCOM import, or just come help us with the ones already listed on the GEDI Challenge.

I love BioCheck.  And I especially  like how it runs on new profile creation.  Do you have any data on whether that has reduced newly created unsourced profiles?

Also I presume I don't need to do anything to get the update, right?  The updated version will run when I invoke it.  Over the past couple of days I've been getting the message that the servers are overloaded and to try again later.  Is this true?

I really don't have a good way to know if it has helped cut down on newly created unsourced profiles. I sure hope so. Of course, you have to have the WBE extension with Bio Check enabled.

The only thing you might need to do to get the update is to refresh your browser page. You can tell by looking at the version reported at the top if you have the latest.

I am not sure what to say about the "Server overloaded". As far as I know, the causes are being investigated. I think with the Hacktoberfest we are probably putting lots of extra stress on the server. Typically, the error should disappear in about a minute (or worst case in an hour).
Server just ran.  Down the Biocheck rabbit hole I go!

Actually it's helping me find my ggrandparents readily enough so I can ask to be on the Trusted list, a nice side benefit.
