We're striking out to look at North American frontiersmen (and women) and scouts in the Connection Finder this week, starting with Daniel Boone.

While I am not fond of the outdoors, I have lived in rural Tanzania for several years (1997-2006), with water from a rain water collecting tank, and 100 miles from the next tarmac road. I prefer a certain distance from people, just like Daniel of whom it has been said that he moved away if he spotted the smoke of the next person's campfire ... ;-)

Hi cousin Elisabeth, thank you, its so interesting to hear from relatives far back, it creates an unwritten story about me. For exampel as child, even though i was a girl l played I were David Crockett, and wore his special hat. l have written songs for confirmations and weddings with the melody of a song about Daviid Crockett, and now it turns out that we are related far back..... These guys got around, as might be expected from their frontier credentials.  My closest is Grizzly Adams at 11 degrees, and five more are 15 or fewer steps away.  Or maybe I just have more backwoods relatives than government leaders and entertainers.

As a Kentuckian I'm particularly pleased to see Daniel Boone at only 13 degrees.  His brother's Van Cleve relatives connect to my ancestor Ely Moore (1798-1860) who was both a U. S. representative from New York and a fairly early immigrant to Kansas.  

Moore was also a labor union organizer in New York and an "agent" for "Indian" tribes in Kansas.  Allegedly he was a friend to them and one story even tells that one of the tribes adopted him.  Of course that's the story as told by those who ended up with all the land.  There may be another side.

There are a couple of 9th cousins and two are even more distant.
