He was from Bayonne, a region in southwest France. In the 1686 Acadian census, he was said to live at Isle Percée with his wife. Isle Percée is in Gaspésie, Québec, and is now known as Rocher Percé. At that time, many fishermen came from that region in France to Gaspésie for the fishing industry. From Stephen White's Dictionnaire généalogique des familles acadiennes pp. 979-980:
*Pierre Le Basque, born in Bayonne. Was married or in couple with a native woman around 1686. They appeared on the 1686 census at Isle Percée. They had a child, no name or gender noted, born around 1687. The family was recorded in the 1688 census of Baie des Chaleurs in which the child was listed at 1 year of age. The entry for the 1688 census, according to Stephen White, (citing BN, Coll. Clairambault, 1016, fol 33) : (translation) There are three residents. The 3rd resident is called Pierre, native of Bayonne. His wife, a native woman, established in 1688 after having served me six years. There is a child who is only one year of age.
No age is given for Pierre. Since he was married around 1686, an estimate for his age could be the year of marriage minus 20 years.
