Hi WikiTreers,

WikiGames Image 1Wow - what a weekend! Whether it's the WikiGames, a marathon, the WikiTree Challenge or any of our other events, you all never cease to amaze me! You put the "awe" in awesome.

For those who aren't familiar, the WikiGames event this weekend was 3 days and had 3 events - the Sourcing Slalom, Cross-Country Connecting and CC7 Wall Climb. 15 randomly assigned teams came together in a grand display of work and collaboration to accomplish some really great things! It was a delight to watch the conversations in Discord and elsewhere while you all worked together to support each other, share ideas and help improve our tree.

We had 15 teams (in honor of our 15th anniversary this year) and more than 218 people participate over the three days.  Here are the results!

Total profiles added to Olympians: 8.024

All-Around Teams

  • Gold - Charming Chestnuts
  • Silver - Splendid Spruces
  • Bronze - Exquisite Elms

You can view all the stats here.

Our combined total of profiles that were either sourced or added to WikiTree is: 32,406!!!

Absolutely outstanding! If you have any feedback to share, we would love to have it here.

We will also have a follow-up livecast this Saturday, September 2, at 2pm EDT/6pm UTC, to talk about some of the Olympians and look at more of the stats with Greg Clarke. You can tune in here!

Such great results for a first-time event!!! "Well done" to everyone who participated, and congratulations to those who "medaled." laugh

It sounds like it was a great deal of fun!

Well done to everyone that took part… from the big hitters to those, like me, who only managed a few entries for each event.

Every morsel counts to the greater good, and I'm very proud to be part of the collective that is WikiTree.

We appreciate every little bit you do!
Great sentiment Geoff
Geoff,

I don't know what team you were on, but the Exquisite Elms missed 3rd place on something by 1 Profile. All of your contributions are important.

Quite so, Pat, that is exactly what I was attempting to put across.

I was on the Heavenly Hemlocks, and we acquitted ourselves just fine. smiley

I think this was my favorite of all the competitions that I've participated in with WikiTree. The even teams made you feel like you at least had a chance. One suggestion might be to have the "medal round" after each event. That is what happens in the real Olympics. That also would give you an idea of how your team was doing.

Oh, that's a fun idea, Ellen!

One interesting point is that the olympian 'Stanley Rupert Rowley' (1876-1924) : Rowley-1466  on the Exquisite Elms team is only 12 degrees apart from 'William Kilgour Jackson' (1871-1955) : Jackson-56426 on the Splendid Spruces team, which means that their CC7 overlap, and i ended up with scores for both teams, funny

I also ended up with scores on two teams as Stuart Alexander Black (1908-1989) - Brilliant Birches and Sylvia Mildred (Oxenham) Potts (1943-1999) - Super Cedars are 3rd cousins once removed.

This was my favorite "thon" type event in my years at WikiTree. Thank you for creating this event and for all of the support. And YAY Elms!!

Congrats to all winning teams and individuals.

But the real winners are those 32,406 profiles heart
