I am trying to grow my paternal line and are stuck with Samuel Bowes (Bowes-1379). Looking for someone who has access to scotlands people website to see if they can find his parents details and date of death.
WikiTree profile: Samuel Bowes

Hi Owen. Welcome to G2G! It's great to ask questions like this one here. But also...anyone can get access to the search functions on Scotland's People by registering for a free account. Downloading images does cost money, but plenty of very useful information is available from the search results even without images.

Thanks Jim! I have registered for scotlands people - but records only go back far as 1855. Hopefully i can find another site that goes back further.
Hi again Owen. Statutory records only go back to 1855. Before that there are church records in a different section of the site, going back to 1513 if I remember correctly. Try Advanced People Search, then select category Church Registers.
Thanks! I have had a look and found the correct area but no luck. Probably as far as I can go with my paternal line so far. Will focus on others in my tree :-)

I have looked and not found anything on Scotlands People for Samuel or Jean birth or marriage.  Jean and Jane are interchangeable names in Scotland, so children birth info will have either or both names is normal.

I revised Jean's birth year to be estimated with same year as Samuel, because it had the same date as son John, which was obviously not correct.

You might be interested in the Tartan Trail to join the Scotland project.  The Trail will give you some information on how to Search and cite the information found on Scotlands People site.

Thanks Linda.

I have looked on familysearch and there was limited info.
I have also looked at ancestry.
thank you! I did have ancestry but found it to be a bit of a ripoff as they only seen to spoon feed lists. Probably gone as far as i can but will keep on updating / improving other records.
