Thanks for answering Kay, there is no question about where the family lived in Ontario.
They lived in Simcoe County and were one of the first settler families. The Innisfil Historical Society has a significant amount of information about the family. Their museum has many original documents and photographs.
I am part of a group of 11 researchers, who are descendants of George and his father John. The only question left to answer is was the store really in the state of Maine, or as has been recently suggested that it was in another place called Maine. The village/hamlet, town of Maine in New York State makes far more sense than the state. which is very far away.
In this case they are my husband's ancestors. George is his 3 x GGF, George's father John Peacock is/was my husband's 4 x GGF.

John fought at the Battle of Waterloo and we have his sword, hanging on our living room wall, it has been passed down to the oldest of each generation since the family arrived in Canada.
My husband inherited it from his great grandmother Melissa Jane ( Jennie) Peacock Brown. We have old photos of Peacock family reunions and other events that were in multiple boxes of old photos.
We haven't been able to find a place called Maine in Ontario.
There are questions about whether George and Jane married in England, and somehow were required to renew their vows after their daughter Jane was born in Buffalo.
