"CC7" Connection Counts

I've been increasing my count however; it now takes me passed the 5,000 profiles limit on my Watchlist.  I'm on the Trusted List of most of my greats because a lot of their profiles have pm's that are no longer active and I've added bio's with sources to those that had none.  I feel that is why my profile count is so high and I wonder why they are not included in my CC7.

I've removed myself as pm on all my first cousins passed 7 generations to help lower my profile count.  I keep finding more within 3 to 6 generations.  I don't mind creating profiles for them but don't want to lower my CC7 when I remove myself as pm.

I know there is a way to increase my CC7 without adding to my profile count, but need help as to how to do it.  I have no doubt this has been explained in past announcements and I missed it somehow.

I would appreciate all the help I can get with this matter.

I will be interested to hear the answers.  My understanding is that CC7 does not depend on being a profile manager or making bio contributions.  I thought it depended simply on there being connected profiles.
Correct Peter. I am not the PM of many of the profiles that are in my CC7 list. When I connect to an already existing profile, my count increases just the same as if I had created that profile.
Please explain how you connect to an already existing profile.
When adding a family member to a profile we have the option of creating a new profile or if a profile already exists, we choose the line that links to that profile by entering the profile ID in the box for connecting to a profile.
The profiles you manage should be less than 5,000, You should reduce the number
Well this is a very good question!

I am writing this before reading through all the answers as there are many.  I think I already know the answer to not being a PM or on trusted list.

Looking forward to learning more about how the CC7 counts our connections.
There is no hard limit of 5000 profiles you can be profile manager of, it's a recommendation, if you can cope with more you can, I do.
There has been previous G2G posts on this topic.
Wikitree software/programs for profile management do have upper limits and exceeding those removes access to watchlist management tools, so orphaning profiles and restricting the size of a watchlist is wise, but if you go a bit  over 5000 you won't encounter problems.

Trusted list count does not have anything to do with your CC7 count. A "CC7" is a person's number of connections on WikiTree within seven degrees. "Connections" are family relationships, including relationships through marriage. Trusted list counts any profile that you have direct management of such as profiles you have created, you have adopted, you have requested to manage.

Then why does my count go down when I remove myself as pm of a first cousin within 7 degrees?
If it is a private profile that you removed yourself from the trusted list for that would explain it I think. Your CC7 can only propagate through profiles that you have access to (I think). Otherwise it would be revealing private information.
Your CC7 count will not go down if you remove a first cousin, but your watch list count will go down they are totally separate counts.
I've seen members with CC7 over 10,000.  How do they do that?
They have some large families in their close connections.
I just found and added the Browser Extention which is exactly what I was looking for.

As Peter says in his comments, the CC7 has nothing to do with the fact that you are Profile Manager or not. It counts all profiles found by the Connection Finder within seven degrees, including private profiles. Some people have very high CC7 without managing a single profile, even without a single contribution.

In other words, CC7 is a measure of the density of the WikiTree graph around you, not a measure of your work (although of course your work might help to make it grow).

[edited] : "a way to increase my CC7 without adding to my profile count". What do you mean exactly by your "profile count"?

I expect she means the number of profiles on her Watchlist.
Yes, I'm referring to my Watchlist.
Ha, OK, understood. Now I hope you understand this is independent of your CC7.

I've removed myself from all profiles that are not direct family or direct line ancestors and my CC7 count has not been affected.

i think your CC7 count would only be affected if you remove yourself from the Trusted List of private profiles within 7 degrees.  Shouldn't matter whether you are PM or merely on the Trusted List - if you aren't Trusted for that private profile, it will drop off your CC7 count.

I am debating whether to ask some PMs if i can be on the Trusted List of some of their family member profiles just so i can count them in my CC7.  I am also considering reaching out to distant cousins who probably don't know i exist to ask them if i can make a private profile for them...just to increase my count.  Of course i could do it anyway, but i think i should ask, since they are still alive and young enough to be computer literate and find it anyway someday!
As I understand it, it has no bearing whatsoever whether you are on any Trusted List or not, regarding your CC7 count.

With that being said, there is a tool that will give you a list of your connections in the various degrees. It does not necessarily give you a complete list, however, because of privacy setting issues.

So while privacy settings of profiles doesn't effect the CC7 Count, it DOES effect how many members from your count will be missed by apps like that one - apps that give you lists, and stuff like that.

I have also run into a situation or two where I was not allowed to add en existing profile to my tree because of privacy protection issues. For example, there is an existing profile for the wife of one of my mother's 1st cousins, but I can't link to her on his profile as being his wife because I'm not on the Trusted List for that profile. I have to either get the profile manager to add him as her spouse, or put on the Trusted List. Until that happens, she won't be in my CC7 count, and neither will a few of her relatives.

But if she was added by that profile manager, without my being on the Trusted List, she and her relatives WOULD count.
