March 2023 BioBuilders Challenge - People whose profile Needs a Biography

This month’s Bio Builders Challenge theme is People whose profile Needs Biography.

On the Needs Biography page you’ll find all the sub-categories and in excess of 14,000 profiles.

This month’s target covers a wide area, but the bull’s eye is Projects, and the 10 ring is PGM (Puritan Great Migration). NOTE: PGM profiles require pre-1700 certification to edit.

If you work on a Project profile, be sure to follow any criteria set forth by that project, especially if a specific badge (pre-1500, pre-1700, etc.) is required.

You are not limited to profiles on your Watchlist.

You are NOT limited to Project profiles.

Thank you for your support.

Here's our checklist:

Data Section:

  • birth date/place
  • names of parents
  • marriage date/place and spouse name
  • names of children, if any
  • death date/place

Biography Section:

  • Written (full) sentences stating the facts above, adding inline sources to each fact.
  • Is the profile '''Genealogically Defined?'''
  • As a general rule biographies should be in your own words. Paraphrase and rewrite, don't copy/paste.
  • Baptism, burial, military, and other life events with inline sources.
  • Something to "humanize" the person, such as career or avocation with sources.
  • List of children with at least one pertinent fact.
  • Some list siblings. (I think this takes up real estate.)
  • Explanatory remarks, if needed (e.g. disputed persons information, Research Notes, whatever needs extra explaining).
  • Photos or pictures, background. Not a must, but nice (you need to own the copyright unless they are in the public domain).
  • Categories.
  • Connection to the Global Tree.
  • All duplicates merged or initiated.
  • Links to persons and events, perhaps from Wikipedia.
  • Historical context as related to the person's life.
  • Sources, Sources, Sources.

You can see some ideas on where to find some of this information on the Biography Builders space page.

Use "comments" below to ask questions.

NOTE: Biography Builders will not show on the tracker. Please add a list to your answer.

contribution to this challenge, does it only count if the profile has the "needs bio" category?  what are the parameters for a profile to be considered "needing a bio" IF they aren't tagged with the category?  I'm hoping to work a few things this month, and trying to see if I can knock out a few birds with one stone.  :)
The idea of this challenge is to reduce the number of profiles in the Needs Biography Category, so, yes, only profiles in the category are eligible to be counted.
Hey Bob.  Makes sense! Never hurts to ask, but I kind of figured this would be the answer.  Thanks :)

Looking for English profiles, I almost overlooked the fact that some countries - including England, France, Finland, Canada, Croatia, Iceland - are another level of sub-categories down under Category: Project Needs Biography.  And then I realised how many of the 14,400 profiles that aren't sub-categorised at all are English and Australian...  Looks like I have plenty to choose from!

I will do what I can from the Ireland sub-category of the "Needs Biography" list as part of the Ireland Project (Profile Improvements). I like to stick with Ireland-related people, so the Puritan Migration project doesn't really work for me... sorry. Here's my list:

2. Phelim Hanly (1892-1933)

3. Sydney Gault (abt. 1828 - 1906)

4. Mary (Tierney) Holahan (1868 - 1944)
