This month’s Bio Builders Challenge theme is People born in Ireland. Have fun.

You are not limited to profiles on your Watchlist.

Thank you for your support.

Here's our checklist:

Data Section:

  • birth date/place
  • names of parents
  • marriage date/place and spouse name
  • names of children, if any
  • death date/place

Biography Section:

  • Written (full) sentences stating the facts above, adding inline sources to each fact.
  • Is the profile '''Genealogically Defined?'''
  • As a general rule biographies should be in your own words. Paraphrase and rewrite, don't copy/paste.
  • Baptism, burial, military, and other life events with inline sources.
  • Something to "humanize" the person, such as career or avocation with sources.
  • List of children with at least one pertinent fact.
  • Some list siblings. (I think this takes up real estate.)
  • Explanatory remarks, if needed (e.g. disputed persons information, Research Notes, whatever needs extra explaining).
  • Photos or pictures, background. Not a must, but nice (you need to own the copyright unless they are in the public domain).
  • Categories.
  • Connection to the Global Tree.
  • All duplicates merged or initiated.
  • Links to persons and events, perhaps from Wikipedia.
  • Historical context as related to the person's life.
  • Sources, Sources, Sources.

You can see some ideas on where to find some of this information on the Biography Builders space page.

Use "comments" below to ask questions.

NOTE: Biography Builders will not show on the tracker. Please add a list to your answer.

A suggestion to add the sticker {{Ireland Native}} to your profiles!

A tip that civil birth records are only available from 1864 onwards. Before that you need to find church records which are not always available depending on the location.

Good luck everyone and I look forward to seeing how many Irish profiles will be done this month!
Thanks for the suggestion and the information Fionnuala.
Thanks, Fionnuala. Great reminder as all mine are prior to 1756 and possibly in Dungarvan, County Waterford (Scotts that moved to Ireland).
Prior to 1756 you will be very, very lucky if you find a birth record, unless they are gentry... good luck!

My Irish profiles are from too early to find any records in Ireland, which is disappointing.

Hello, Okay, here goes, I'm focusing on my Maternal G'mother, Mary Katherine Sheehan Cranney (5/8/1887-1968) born Ballymacthomas, Cork City, Co. Cork, Ireland, died Salem, MA, USA. Her Parents were John Joseph Sheehan (bef1861-bef1936) (Full Death date & exact location of death?) born either Mallow, Co. Cork or Dublin & Helena/Ellen (she didn't like the name Ellen, so chose Helena for herself!) (Middle name?) FitzGerald (4/12/1865-2/28/1922) born Skibbereen, Co. Cork, Ireland, died Peabody, MA, USA. Michael E. & Mary K. married Providence, RI 4/12/1909. All of them John & Helena buried St Mary's RC Cemetery, Salem, MA. They had Doris Helena Cranney Hilton (2/16/1910-5/1969) born in Peabody, MA, USA, died in Danvers, MA, USA, married as his 2nd Wife, Wendell Philip Hilton, Sr. (3/3 or 4/1910, either Yarmouth, NS or Bloomfield Ridge, NB, Canada, definitely Canada! they had 2 kids, ME, John MacDonald Hilton (9/19/1950-Living) & MaryJane Hilton Mullen (1/27/1954-Living). Both of US married, I lost my Wife & Son in an Automobile Accident in 1975, never remarried & MaryJane married & divorced. My Mother, Doris was the Office Manager of Salem Commercial Laundry in Salem, MA. She & Wendell married Aug. 1949 St. Mary's RC Rectory, Danvers, MA. Doris had a Brother, John Joseph Cranney (1911-90), married to Audrey Arline Merrill (abt1915-abt1974). They had 3 kids, Patricia Cranney Thomas, Michael Edward Cranney III & Mary Cranney Pendelton. That's about all that I can remember & have Found out! Any Inconsistencies or Errors, Please correct me! Be well, Jack MacDonald-Hilton, now from Worcester, MA, raised in Danvers, MA.
