Father of Shadrack B.A. Carter

This profile is very likely attached to the wrong family, but I do not know how to proceed to correct the situation

DAR records indicate that Shadrack B.A. Carter is the son of Corporal Samuel Carter [[Carter-42381]]

https://services.dar.org/public/dar_research/search_adb/?action=full&p_id=A020061

FamilySearch.org agrees, but their info appears to be based on DAR records:

I just looked at your proposed merge.  I'd have another look - Their dates are not very consistent with one another

carter-36380 -- 1764-1827

carter-11016 -- 1792-1835

Thanks.

I took another look, following my own advice.  I see that Samuel (carter-42381) is only about one or 12 years, depending on which birth date of Shadrach you use, older than Shadrach (carter-36380), so he can't be the father.

Once you sort out who belongs where, or even that someone DOESN'T belong somewhere, you can go into the Edit tab, locate, in this case, the father on the upper right, and click on remove/replace.  This doesn't destroy the profile; it simply unlinks the two you're working with.  Then you might want write a very brief note in the text, somewhere, maybe under Research Notes, that you did this and why.

Hope that helps.
It looks like the Family Search profile for Shadrack B A has a source that is a bible record. It lists Shadrack B A as son to Samuel Carter and (I believe) Elizabeth Keene. This actually is a different maiden name than the Family search profile has for Shadrack’s mother. Perhaps this means that it is the wrong Samuel? I’ll have to take a closer look to see the maiden name on Wikitree for Shadrack’s mother

just checked. Wikitree doesn’t have a mother, just Samuel. I think the Bible record is a pretty good source. I would look for Samuel Carter and Elizabeth Keene
Just looked at the DAR applications and they have mother as Elizabeth Holly Keene.  However, the marriage record is for Elizabeth Holly.  I think it is possible that there was a first marriage for Elizabeth Keene to someone with the last name Holly.

There is record of Samuel and Elizabeth's marriage in 1779, so Shadrack B A's DOB was probably not prior to that date.  The DOB of 1764 for Carter-36380 wouldn't make sense but the DOB of 1792 for Carter-11016 would make sense for child of Samuel and Elizabeth (which is how DAR has it)
I did not propose that they be merged.  They are not the same person.  Just attached to the wrong fathers.
If you look at the DAR record for Samuel (I attached the link on his page) it says that Samuel married Elizabeth Holly and not Elizabeth Holly Keene
Yes it certainly does!  That is interesting because 2 DAR applications used Elizabeth Holly Keene, and the transcribed Bible record uses just Keene. I agree with you that they are different Shadrack’s,  and that Samuel should be father of Shadrack B A.  I think Elizabeth is a bit confusing to sort out!
