Searching for ggggrandfather, Adin Hamilton, from AL who disappeared in SC during the Civil War.

I have his military record of dates, unit, battles, commanders. He was on James Island, SC & a couple of his buddies swore he was wounded & ill when the Confederates pulled out & he was left there. This they put in a sworn statement for my ggg-grandmother in an application for a widow's pension. However, an amature genealogist later located him on a patient list at a hospital in NC & dismissed May 1865. There the trail goes cold.

I am not only looking for the end of his life, but the beginning as well. The very first official record known to definitely be him is his marriage certificate. There were not only many Hamiltons in the US census but children for the most part are listed only by gender & age, making it almost impossible to determine which was my ggg-grandfather's family.

Appreciate any help you can give me.

Is this the man that you are looking for?

https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/sources/L87G-2MC

It's an Adin Hamilton, who served with the 28th Battalion, Siege Artillery, which saw action in South Carolina, and seems to reflect a hospital stay.

Thanks for your effort & I guess I should have mentioned that I have all of that-couldn't figure out how to attach the picture, etc. But question was where did he die & where/when was he born? Where did the birth year come from? Where did you get the death date?

Again, thanks.

I am sorry, but I cannot follow what you are asking.

When I click the link for the related profile, I think I get your profile and not that of our ancestor.  I'm assuming the G Adkins profile is you.

What is the profile of your ancestor so we can see what facts exist I do not understand the name of the person you wish us to research.

Adin J. Hamilton -- Find a Grave

Is this the person you are looking for?

Looks like him. Hmmm...and I've been through find a grave before & nothing. Records are put in by family members or volunteers. The headstone is a memorial & although it appears to have death year & Cemetary name, note that below it states. "Actual burial place is unknown" I do recognize the contributor of this record as a cousin. This could be a stone In Memory, since it's in TX & not GA. The date could also be guessed at-1864 vs 1865 in familysearch.org. I probably looked through find a grave before he was added. I tried again & they wanted money?

Anyway, thanks for spending time on this.

He seems to be in Talbot Georgia in 1860. The census record shows wife Missouri and Children;

John 12,Thomas 10,Mary 8, Daniel 4,Sarah 1. All born in Georgia. It gives his birth year as 1825,Georgia.

He married Missouri Bane Dec.3,1848,Crawford Georgia.

Like you said he was in the Civil war.28th Battalion, Georgia Siege Artillary. Private Company D

According to FAG His military grave marker may be in Geneva,Sabine,Texas Death Date 1864. Myrtle Springs Cemetery.

"Find A Grave Index," database, FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QVLD-2FN5 : 24 February 2022), Adin J. Hamilton, ; Burial, Geneva, Sabine, Texas, United States of America, Myrtle Springs Cemetery; citing record ID 93946041, Find a Grave, http://www.findagrave.com.

A record on Fold 3 states he was in the hospital in Charlotte N.C. Feb6,1865 , but sent to another hospital. Does not say where. I am assuming Texas, since the FAG records says he is buried there.

I hope this helps!

I think I replied to this yesterday, but not certain. It may have been someone else. I should add that I have (somewhere!) the record of Missouri Bane applying for a widow's pension with 2 of Adin's buddies swearing that he was left ill (injured?) on James Island when the Confederates pulled out.I suppose they might have sent him to Texas? but it simply does not make sense when he could have been sent to GA & a reunion with his wife & children. Texas would be another 400 miles, a fairly long trip for an injured soldier. Remember the FAG notation that his true burial place is unknown.

Thanks for your help with my question.

Hi, thanks. Although it's a distict possibility, it's difficult to tell since "Adin/Aden" is a very popular name of the Scots Irish-then & now. I'll have to get my glasses, read the will & see if there may be any clues in it.

Thanks, appreciate the info.
